Formation First exists to help families resist that pressure and intentionally cultivate the environments that shape a child’s faith, identity, character, calling, and purpose.

Tyler Patmon
Tyler Patmon is a former NFL defensive back, coach, nonprofit leader, and education founder whose work has consistently centered on helping young people discover who they are, what they are capable of, and who God has called them to become.
After competing at the highest level of professional football—including time with the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars—Tyler continued investing in young people through coaching, camps, mentorship, leadership development, Bible studies, and athlete-development initiatives.
Those experiences helped shape a conviction that now sits at the center of his work: children should not have to build their identity on achievement. Their gifts and performance should flow from an identity anchored in Christ.
Formation First gives Tyler the opportunity to learn alongside families by sitting with people who have spent their lives forming children, leading institutions, coaching athletes, pastoring families, building organizations, and creating environments where young people can flourish. His role as host is to ask thoughtful questions, listen well, and help bring the guest’s wisdom to families who may never otherwise have access to it.
Outset Christian Academy
Tyler and his team are currently building Outset Christian Academy, a Christ-centered K–12 school planned for Kaufman County, Texas. The school is being developed around the same formation-first conviction: who a child is becoming should come before what a child is achieving.
Outset is designed to develop the whole child while helping students discover and faithfully steward their God-given gifts through personalized learning and intentional development.
